Brothers, let us think of meat!
Let us sing of things to eat;
Let us sing a doleful dirge
Of the profiteers who urge
Prices up and ever up.
On the plate and in the cup
We watch money going, going,
Where twill end? There is no knowing.

Brothers, in the days of yore
We ate up and asked for more—
Passed our platter, never careing
how the bank account was faring
But in these distressing days
Weve to think of means and ways
Shall we scoff that other chop?
Cautions tells us better stop!

Brothers, who are profiteers
In the ancient careless years
gladly we ate eggs and ham
Good roast beef and tender lamb.
Never caring, never fearing
Folk who might be profiteering
But today, each bite we take
Tell us someone's on the make.

Brothers, where is it to end?
Much we earn and much we spend
And what time the income waxes,
Is it all absorbed by taxes
And the money that we save
Hardly buys a decent grave.

Brothers, tis the age of greed,
Little here ..... we need
When we're dead we do not eat?
Let us scorn the price of meat.
Dreaming of a living cheap
lest we sink in our last sleep
we be swindled there's the label
By grim ....ing ....
