A treaty between Great Britain and the State of Irak has been signed.
I never had heard of the State of Irak,
I lack
Geographical knowledge.
At school and at college
The things that I know
Of Penang and Peru
Won prizes and praises and pats on
the back;
But I don't know a thing of the State
of Irak.
I've searched all the maps for the
State of Irak.
Alack!
My teacher's extensive
And quite comprehensive
Reading Iran,
Punt Hill and Prahran,
But I never seem able to get on the
track
Of details concerning the State of
Irak.
I fear that the folk in the State of
Irak
Are slack.
'Tis rather surprising
They're not advertising.
I long and I yearn
To read and to learn
Of these folk. Are they white, are
they brown, are they black?
Is it hot, is it cold in the State of
Irak?
Now, how may I go to this State of
Irak,
And back?
Strange sights may be met there
But how can I get there—
Boat, or by rail?
Do you fly, do you sail?
Could I only find out, then my bag
would I pack,
And I'd spend
A week-end
In elusive Irak
