Preference

Should the threat of war develop it is fairly certain that the recruiting preferences will be given to returned soldiers - at last!

"They made us gaudy promises,"
Said simple Soldier Jack,
"They said, with ready deference,
'Brave lads, we'll give you pref-
erence.
You will not need a reference
When you come sailing back.'

"We went away an' fought for 'em,",w
The simple soldier said
" Then when we sought a job or two
They handed out a bob or two,
Heaved sighs. an' sobbed a sob or two,
But Preference was dead."

"But now the game is on again"
The simple soldier cried
"New rumours come of war again
It's diggers to the fore again
We're heroes all once more again
And will not be denied

"It starts a man to think a bit"
Said simple soldier Jack,
"But with a cheerful grin again,
We'll give the game a spin again,
But will you fit us in again
When we come sailing back?"
