The Pitcher Show [no title]

Publication: Melbourne Herald
Date: 07 May 1927

THE pitcher show it comes to town
    Every Friday night.
Pitcher show? Pitcher show!
Oh, it’s a show all right.
But I scarce ’ave time to look at the screen
There is so much else to be ’eard an’ seen.
In the audience, all polished an’ clean,
    Every Friday night.

Oh, the audience is a sight to see,
    Every pitcher night:
Stout an’ slim all proper an’ prim,
    Lookin’ a orful sight;
Councillor Kidd all fussy an’ fat
An’ that wife o’ ’is in ’er ugly ’at
Sniffin’ an’ starin’; the nasty cat
    Every pitcher night.

Butcher, baker an’ all o’ the town,
    Come to the pitcher show
All o’ ’em dressed in their Sunday best,
Sittin’ up there in a row.
An’ they snuffle an’ snigger an’ giggle an’ grin,
Watchin’ the pitcher an’ takin’ it in,
While the boys at the back make a orful din
    Up at our pitcher show.
