The cables tell us that, while he knew the police were waiting to ar- rest him, a player in a snooker tournament in London calmly ended the game by scoring 25 out of a possible 25, equalled his opponent’s score, then repotted the black ball, and won the tournament. He was then arrested.
THE Green, the Brown, the Blue, the Pink, The Black were on the board. He knew all five he’d have to sink Ere victory be scored. And yet an outlook nought but black Awaited him he knew. For, lurking close behind his back, There stood a man in blue. He too was blue and much cast down, And yet he did not shrink. He sank the Green, he sank the Brown, He potted Blue and Pink. Tho’ well he knew the Law stood by He was true blue, and game. Upon the Black he fixed his eye And gravely took his aim. “She’s down?” “She’s not?” “She’s in!! Well played!” They spot the Black once more. Once more he sinks it, undismayed And tops his foeman’s score. Alas! The Law now takes its cue, And fleeting triumph’s gone. “I want you,” says the man in Blue, “You’re snookered, lad. Come on.”
